Opinion

S: Credibility is important, especially in the context of this blog where I express numerous perspectives on AI’s impact on the business of golf.

Undeniably, AI will have a substantial effect on the golf industry. While businesses, professionals, leadership, and governance will be affected, I am convinced that golfers themselves will reap the most positive effects. Even though there may be entities and individuals who might exploit AI for destructive purposes, I am confident that within the realm of golf their impact can be minimized.

However, when considering the wider global perspective, I am a strong proponent for the cessation of AI, or at the very least, the implementation of regulations that could lead to its termination. The reality is that the fusion of such a potent tool with human nature could bring about severe long-term consequences. History has shown us that it only takes a handful of malevolent individuals to sow discord and chaos. With AI, these actors no longer need to be leaders of nations or organized groups of willing followers.

Compounding our historical lack of discipline is our inadequate intellectual capacity to effectively manage AI. Only a select few “chess masters” will truly understand its power and have the ability to control its capabilities. Over time, this group will dwindle until AI evolves into an indispensable and potentially indestructible super-intelligent force beyond our comprehension. We must give significant thought to this potential scenario.

So, the question that arises is, “Is it already too late?”
